Ukraine is one of the richest countries in the world because it has a significant amount of fertile land. According to AgroPolit.com for 2017, the indicator of the distribution of the total area of Ukrainian arable land on the number of people living in the country is about one person per hectare. However, this situation is gaining momentum now. Due to deteriorating weather conditions, in particular, due to severe droughts or, conversely, heavy rainfall and winds, as well as due to the use of poor quality fertilizers and indifference to the environment, the number of fertile soils decreases. This significantly affects the economy of society. That is why the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of NAAS of Ukraine together with Cuiavian University in Włocławek supported by the Center for Ukrainian and European Scientific Cooperation organized scientific and pedagogical advanced training to improve the level of agricultural sciences in Ukraine.

As part of this event, the first online lecture has started on August 10, 2021. Mykhailo Yuriiovych Vikhliiaev, Doctor of Juridical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Center for Ukrainian and European Scientific Cooperation made an opening statement. He emphasized that agro-industrial production has significant potential and conditions for further active development, but it faces considerable problems (namely, modernization of education, optimization of production, increasing the range, etc.), which must be solved immediately.
Then, Vozhehova Raisa Anatoliivna, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, took the floor. She drew attention to the need and importance of this event both for scientists and for all farmers and entrepreneurs.

After that, Balashova Halyna Stanislavivna, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Senior Researcher, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Vegetable Crops and Potatoe of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine was invited to speak. She gave a lecture on “Biotechnologies in the system of virus-free horticulture”.
In the modern world, biotechnology is a set of technologies that involve the use of biological processes of living cells, macro- and micromolecules to obtain products. The use of this technology is due to the need to increase yields, protect plants from pests and various diseases, improve the quality of staple crops, seek cost-effective and environmental technologies, and create new drugs that improve the quality of human life.
Balashova Halyna Stanislavivna focused on 3 areas of biotechnology, told about the types of plant diseases and pesticides, as well as much more.
We truly thank everyone who joined this event. See you at the new lectures!
