Oleh Holovko and Mykhailo Vikhliaiev, members of the Executive Board of the Center for Ukrainian and European Scientific Cooperation, came to Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences (KFEEUAS) with a working visit. The University campus is situated in a beautiful area (Girionys settlement) surrounded by parks and forest areas, close to Kaunas Sea. The meeting with Remigijus Bakys, Deputy Director for Development and Innovation, and Eglė Morkūnienė, Head of Staff Department, took place within the university.
Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences is a higher education establishment recognized in Lithuania and throughout Europe which provides a top-quality education in forestry and environmental engineering and conducts applied researches. The University was founded in 1927 in Alytus (the Republic of Lithuania) as the first Forest School in the country. In 1939, the school was moved to Vilnius, and in 1963 – to Girionys (Kaunas region). In the Soviet period, the school was reorganized into Forestry Technicum, and when Lithuania regained its independence, it became Higher Forestry School. In 2002, the school acquired a new status – Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences (KFEEUAS), and its activities intensified. Now the University trains experts in forestry engineering, landscape design, nature (forest) tourism, land management, hydrotechnical engineering, cadastral surveys and real estate valuation. In addition, the University carries out professional training and provides forest workers with in-service courses.
The University participates in ERASMUS, NORDNATUR and other international exchange programs, and has arranged bilateral student and lecturer exchange agreements with higher education schools of forest management, landscape architecture and environmental engineering from Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Spain, Hungary, Turkey and other countries. Since 2004, the University participates in international research and education projects. KFEEUAS organizes national and international workshops and conferences, where various up-to-date issues in the fields of forestry and environmental engineering are discussed.
Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for further cooperation in the educational and scientific process. Thus, representatives of Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences showed interest in study visits of Ukrainian students and young scientists to their institution. The Center of Ukrainian and European Scientific Cooperation and Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences are going to sign Memorandum on Cooperation in terms it is planned to conduct joint international scientific projects on natural sciences: scientific and pedagogical internships, international scientific and practical conferences, elaboration of collective monographs, etc.
