III-IV Congress of Orientalists successfully held in December 2020

1798

Modern global processes, which are characterized by volatility, geopolitical turbulence, new challenges almost in all areas of social life and international relations, require searching for a new architecture, stability and diversified cooperation, understanding of the need for a new global dialogue. In this context, it is important to create a philosophic-methodological basis, which will contribute to the change of a backward comprehension of dichotomy “East – West” or “Europe – Asia”, for a new scientific-humanitarian worldview necessary for an equitable dialogue of all the global cultures and civilizations. Globalization, which made the world closer, clearly identified disparateness, inconsistencies of the world’s macro-regions of the East and West and, thus, necessitates the specialized profound research.

The III-IV Congress of Orientalists, which gathered about 200 participants, held on 23-24 December 2020 at V. I. Vernadsky Taurida National University. The event was devoted to the 150th anniversary of Ahatanhel Krymsky’s birthday.

The congress covered a broad subject matter, and participants’ reports made it possible to delve into the issues of history and culture of Oriental countries, their religion and their system of philosophy. The reports also elucidated history, culture and modernity of the Crimea, studied Orientalism in Ukrainian and European literary studies, oriental studies in modern media space.

Controversial issues were discussed during a round table “Crimea – Krymskyi –Krymske” taking place on the second day.

Congress materials were published in the form of a collection of abstracts and presented to the participants free of charge due to the partnership support of Helvetica Publishing House.
